Join us

Dear prospective AYEN member,

It is our distinct pleasure to thank you for your interest in joining the African Youth Environmentalist Network.

AYEN aims to develop a green, vibrant, and sustainable Africa by empowering youth environmentalists to become thought leaders, change makers, and protectors of people and planet. Through the creation of platforms that support intergenerational communication, policy engagement, and knowledge sharing AYEN hopes to allow African youth to take charge of their future. Through the use of these platforms to implement sustainable projects and support grassroots youth initiatives, AYEN hopes to create that future in real time.

Who can become a member?
AYEN has several different membership sections. The core membership group is focused around youth (below the age of 30) who have a background in environmentalism or closely related subjects and wish to pursue their careers in Africa. These youth members will be supported by a group of older, experienced mentors who serve to guide and advise the youth members. This will make up the core group of AYEN and will act as the frontline for AYEN initiatives.
Additionally, there will be membership opportunities for youth members of varied professional backgrounds who hold an interest in environmentalism and would like to engage with AYEN for knowledge sharing and working together on sustainable initiatives. These youth members will be of critical importance in the implementation of sustainable initiatives as the need for transdisciplinary and holistic interventions becomes ever more clear.

AYEN’s goals include:
  • Creating and supporting a network of grassroots youth initiatives focused on engaging directly with the community.
  • Creating a platform for youth environmentalists to discuss ideas with like minded peers and share them with the world.
  • Providing a pathway for youth environmentalists to further their careers and skills by working on meaningful projects and receiving training..
  • Educating and empowering youth environmentalists by promoting intergenerational dialogue and engagement with policy making instruments.
  • Teaching youth the importance of sustainable lifestyles and nature based solutions and how to implement them in their lives and communities.
As a newly formed and burgeoning network, AYEN is eager to adopt new members and truly begin the process of building a green, prosperous, and sustainable Africa.
